My story is one of change, and adaptation.
I have lived and worked around the world — from Bombay to Moscow; from Reykjavik to São Paulo; from Luanda to Jerusalem.
I have seen lithium mines guzzling water in the Atacama Desert; children digging for cobalt in the DRC; fires rampaging over the Amazon; litter mountains in megacities; plastics covering isolated beaches; devastated towns in the wake of a tsunami.
My professional path began with international relations at Keele University, which I chose due to their strong focus on climate change within IR — pioneering at that time.
I then worked with development policy and climate issues at the European Parliament, transitioning to a German political foundation, where I worked, among other issues, with the climate-energy nexus, heading huge public funds for project creation and management. This was an enriching experience, yet after twenty years in the field, I reached a fork in the road.
I thus founded Hendrik with the goal of doing my bit to help the shift to a zero carbon future. In the manufacturing domain, my background is unconventional — yet, as a career changer, I look at things from a different perspective to that of pure engineers. In other words, unorthodox thinking paired with a macro world view provides a significant advantage.
I am a great believer in humanity, although I have seen many of its darkest sides. We are an adaptive species. With high-quality engineering and clever design, things change for the better. Hendrik vehicles aim to be a small part of the shift to a greener, better world.
